Seasonal follow-up calendar for landscapers

Landscaping work follows the seasons, and so should your follow-ups. Get in touch a few weeks before each job is due and you fill the diary early, smooth out the quiet months and win the big projects before someone else does. Adapt the timings to your area and the clients you work for.

Late winter: January and February

People plan garden projects after Christmas. This is the time to win the big jobs for spring.

  • Contact last year’s enquiries about patios, paving, fencing and new lawns
  • Quote hard landscaping early, so you can book spring start dates
  • Offer storm repairs to fences and sheds after winter gales
  • Offer bare-root hedging and trees while they are available
  • Remind clients about hedge cutting before the bird nesting season, which generally runs from March to August
Text to a past enquiry
Hi [name], it’s [your name] from [business]. You asked about a new patio last year. I’m booking spring projects now. Would you like me to come and take a look?

Spring: March to May

The busiest season. Lock in regular work now, and follow up every spring quote quickly.

  • Start regular maintenance: mowing, edging and weeding contracts
  • Offer lawn care: feeding, moss control and repairs to worn patches
  • Planting, beds and borders for the summer
  • Chase every patio and fencing quote within a few days
  • Check hedges for nesting birds before any cutting, as active nests are protected by law

Hi [name],

Autumn is a good time to renovate a tired lawn. I’m booking September and October work now, and I’d be happy to price scarifying, aerating and overseeding for you. Just reply and I’ll pop round.

Thanks,

Autumn: September to November

Good conditions for lawn work and planting, and the season to set up winter contracts.

  • Lawn renovation: scarifying, aerating and overseeding
  • Leaf clearance rounds, ideally on a regular contract
  • Turfing and planting while the soil is still warm
  • Hedge cutting once the nesting season has passed
  • Book bare-root planting for November onwards
  • Offer winter maintenance contracts to keep the diary full
Text offering leaf clearance
Hi [name], the leaves are starting to come down. I’m running fortnightly leaf clearance in your area through November. Want me to add you to the round?

Winter: December to February

Quieter for many landscapers. Use it to fill next year and look after your best clients.

  • Fencing, sheds and storm repairs
  • Tree and hedge work, subject to wildlife and any tree preservation rules
  • Planning visits for next year’s projects
  • A short thank-you to regular clients, with next year’s prices
  • Review last year: which jobs paid best, and who your best clients were
New year message to regular clients
